How do colours sound?

Updated: Apr 3, 2021

Do you hear colour or a shape, or taste a word?

If you are familiar with this feeling, you are among the 2 to 4% of the world’s population affected by synesthesia, a condition you share with Vassily Kandinsky, the painter.

If not, would you like to know what it would feel like?

Well, you’re in luck! There’s a remarkable Google Arts + Culture project that uses machine learning and Kandinsky’s extensive colour theories to recreate what the painter might have heard when he painted “Yellow-Red-Blue” in 1925.

Try “Play a Kandinsky” and let’s turn the painting into a symphony.

Google Art is an interesting tool that allows us to have a sort of understanding of what was happening in Kandinsky’s mind when he was creating.

It opens our mind towards other dimensions and makes us reframe our thinking.

Enjoy!
